About the Discipline

Psychology is home to the University's Psychology and Counselling and Psychotherapy provision, delivered at undergraduate and postgraduate level. About the Role

We are excited to offer this permanent post to support the delivery of our growing British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited provision in Forensic Psychology and Psychology.

As a Lecturer in Forensic Psychology, you will contribute to the delivery of modules that form part of the undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio, including core areas recognised by the British Psychological Society and any specialist areas.

Our provision is delivered both on campus and online and this role will include delivery across both modes. You will contribute to the delivery of teaching across the portfolio, and contribute to the achievement of the highest outcomes for our students through excellent teaching and student support.

Psychology has an active research agenda and growing research profile. You will have the opportunity to engage with and/or support financially sustainable research and/or other appropriate academic and scholarly activity.

The role will include supporting our marketing events (e.g., open days) and outreach (e.g., school visits) which occasionally take place into evenings and at weekends. We support hybrid working as business needs permit and in agreement with the Head of Discipline.

This role is a full-time position of 37 hours a week, however we would welcome applications from candidates who wish to be considered for a job share. About You

You will hold a good honours degree in Psychology (or a relevant subject) and an MSc in Forensic Psychology (BPS-accredited Stage 1 qualification). You will hold, or be willing to work towards, Fellowship of Advance HE.

You will have knowledge or experience of higher education teaching, learning and programme development, with the ability to use a range of teaching approaches and digital technologies to engage students. You will demonstrate expertise within your discipline, alongside experience of research, scholarship or enterprise and evidence of high-quality research outputs.

You will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas, work collaboratively and independently, and manage competing priorities.

About the Role

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning across designated curriculum areas at the University of Derby Buxton. You will be responsible for planning, developing and delivering engaging and effective learning programmes, ensuring that teaching meets the requirements of the Further Education Professional Standards and relevant quality and inspection frameworks.

The role will involve developing and co-ordinating programmes, monitoring and assessing student progress, providing personal tutoring and pastoral support, and contributing to curriculum development and continuous improvement. The Catering and Hospitality curriculum at Buxton is designed to be learner-focused, offering a wide array of courses that cater to diverse learner needs. About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to deliver exceptional teaching, learning and assessment across Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications in Catering and Hospitality, with a particular focus on food and beverage service. About the Role

We are seeking an innovative medical professional with an interest in education to lead the development, delivery and evaluation of the University's Recognising Potential programmes and associated pathways into medicine and healthcare. The role will focus on supporting learners from underrepresented backgrounds to raise their aspirations, develop their skills and confidence, and successfully progress into higher education and future healthcare careers.

Working closely with the Founding Dean of Medicine and a wide range of internal and external partners, you will design and deliver engaging educational programmes for learners aged 8–18 and beyond, including aspiring medical students and those studying on the University's Access to Medicine Diploma. Activities will include medical school application support, UCAT and Multiple Mini Interview preparation, clinical and communication skills workshops, simulated work experience, outreach activities and summer schools.

You will play a key role in developing innovative learning resources, evaluating programme impact and using evidence to drive continuous improvement. Building strong partnerships with schools, colleges, healthcare organisations and community stakeholders will be central to creating sustainable educational pathways and expanding access to medicine and other healthcare professions.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic development of the University of Derby Medical School, champion widening participation and social mobility, and help shape a future healthcare workforce that better reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.

About You

You will be a qualified medical professional with a primary medical qualification and full GMC registration with a licence to practise, alongside experience in medical education, widening participation or supporting learners aspiring to enter medicine and other healthcare professions. You will have a strong understanding of UK medical school admissions processes, including UCAT and Multiple Mini Interview preparation, and a passion for helping learners from diverse backgrounds realise their potential.

You will bring experience of developing engaging educational programmes and resources, delivering interactive, learner-centred teaching and evaluating educational activities to improve outcomes. About the Role

The Psychology subject area is home to the University's Psychology and Counselling and Psychotherapy provision, delivered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a TEF Gold institution, we are proud to contribute high quality programmes grounded in psychological and behavioural science with a significant focus on applied psychology and professional practice. We provide a large accredited provision across several Professional and Statutory Regulatory Bodies (including the BPS, HCPC, BABCP, BACP, NCPS and CIEHF). Our programmes provide undergraduate underpinnings and initial postgraduate training for some psychological professions, and support progression into careers across sectors such as marketing, business, management and leadership (and many more). Furthermore we offer training in a range of therapeutic modalities across the counselling and psychotherapy provision and contribute to the development of the wider psychological workforce through our NHS based commissioned programmes. In Psychology our provision is underpinned by excellent student support to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students and high quality progression opportunities into a range of careers. Our delivery is further underpinned by high quality scientific research and scholarly activity, with industry informed and based research at the forefront of curriculum developments to ensure programmes are meeting the needs of employers to foster the success of our graduates from across the subject.

We are excited to offer this Maternity Cover post to support the delivery of our growing British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited provision in Psychology on campus and online. As a Lecturer in Psychology, you will contribute to the delivery of modules that form part of the undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio across the Psychology subject area, including core areas recognised by the British Psychological Society and any specialist areas. Our provision is delivered both on campus and online and this role will include delivery across both modes. Objectives of the post holder will be to contribute to the delivery of excellence in teaching across the portfolio, and to contribute to achievement of the highest outcomes for our students through excellent teaching and student support.

Psychology has an active research agenda and growing research profile. You will have the opportunity to engage with and/or support financially sustainable research and/or other appropriate academic and scholarly activity. 

The role will include supporting our marketing events (e.g., open days) and outreach (e.g., school visits) which occasionally take place into evenings and at weekends. We do support hybrid working as business needs permit and in agreement with the Head of Discipline.   

We are advertising this role as a full time position, however we would also consider part time applications; please express your preference in your application.

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave due to start in February/March 2027, with the contract for 12 months. There may be the potential for the contract to be extended beyond this date, however this cannot be guaranteed.
