Two fixed-term three-year positions.

Challenging, interesting and constantly changing, the University of Derby is an extraordinary place to learn and an incredibly rewarding place to work. Ours is an extraordinary educational environment and because we specialise in identifying and developing individual potential, you can be confident you'll receive all the help and encouragement you need to build a rewarding career with lots of opportunities to progress. Our combined higher and further education offering is spread over campuses in Derby, Buxton, Leek and Chesterfield and we have some of the best university facilities in the UK, investing more than £200 million in facilities in the last 10 years. We achieve outstanding results for our teaching* and research and with more than 34,000 people choosing to study with us every year, we depend on the dedication of a team of 2,200 academic and professional services staff. Financially strong and seriously ambitious we offer our employees a family-friendly, rewarding career with lots of opportunities to progress.

The two fixed-term three-year positions are part of the University of Derby’s commitment to enhance the research profile in the School of Arts, the work of the Digital and Material Arts Research Centre (D-MARC), and its’ affiliated research groups. As part of the School of Arts research team you will take appropriate initiatives towards setting up new research projects, contributing to and supporting ideas and developing research methodologies and techniques. Each position offers the opportunity to work closely with the research lead in School of Arts, contributing to a thriving research environment and community through engagement and support of its’ groups, projects and seminar series. It is anticipated that one post will be awarded to a candidate with a profile and expertise in academic writing, with the other in art and design practice.

The post holders will contribute to sustaining and increasing the momentum of our 2014 REF submission, leading towards that of 2021. We seek to appoint individuals to make a specific contribution to research in the subject areas for REF Unit of Assessment 32 (Art and Design). This may include (but is not limited too) subject and/or disciplinary alignment with fine art, photography, design, art history, critical theory, digital practices, arts and wellbeing, etc. Each post holder will have the potential to generate 3* outputs to contribute to the REF exercise in 2021.

The post holders will undertake and develop individual and collaborative research activity resulting in high-quality publications and outputs. Additionally, they will identify, develop and support research projects and funding opportunities with colleagues. Each post holder will have duties to support ongoing collaborative research within The School of Arts, and those in strategic development. Furthermore, and dependent on your discipline, you will regularly produce research outputs in such ways as exhibiting, publishing high quality papers and book chapters in academic outlets, and presenting findings at conferences.
